Moorea Sea Scooter Snorkeling Tour

About This Experience
Moorea Water Games runs this snorkeling trip on handheld sea scooters, small motorized propellers you hold in front of you so they pull you along the surface. Tours leave from the nautical center at the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea on the island's northeast coast, next to the dive center, and are led in English and French in small groups. A round-trip transfer is available as a booking option.
After a safety briefing, a captain takes the group by boat to the snorkel spots. Recent guests describe three stops, with coral gardens, anemonefish, stingrays, turtles, blacktip or nurse sharks and, on some days, dolphins. The scooter does most of the work, so you cover more reef with less effort. Soft drinks and a 0.5-liter bottle of water are included, and there is an optional photo and video package from the guide.
This is a lagoon trip, not a whale tour. Outside whale season, or on a day away from the open ocean, the lagoon's turtles, rays and reef sharks are the main attractions, and the scooter makes them easier to reach for anyone who tires quickly with fins. The trip runs rain or shine.
Children under 10, people over 70, pregnant women and people with limited mobility can't join. The only three-star review mentions a late start, fingers straining on the throttle over a long session, and a guide from another operator throwing food to the rays nearby, which the reviewer disliked.
Prices start from $161 per person, with a 5.0 rating from 99 reviews. You can cancel up to 24 hours ahead for a full refund.

One of the best experiences in Moorea :) Swimming with stingrays was amazing, we also saw a lot of fish, sharks and a turtle. Our guide Nico was the best :)

We had an amazing trip with the sea scooter! The guides were very friendly and explained everything really well. It was a small group, which made the experience even better. We made three snorkeling stops and saw so many amazing fish and beautiful coral reefs. We even saw clownfish, which I had been looking forward to seeing. The best part was swimming with two friendly stingrays during our last snorkeling stop. It was an unforgettable experience. Overall, it was an amazing trip, and I highly recommend it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a sea scooter?
A small handheld motorized propeller. You hold it in front of you with a mask and snorkel on, press the throttle and it pulls you along the surface, so you can cover more of the reef without tiring.
Do I need snorkeling experience?
No. The operator says the tour suits beginners as well as experienced snorkelers, and guests who had never used a scooter say they got the hang of it within minutes. You do need to be comfortable in the water with a mask on.
Who can't join?
Children under 10, people over 70, pregnant women and people with limited mobility.
Is transport included?
Only if you pick the option with a round-trip transfer. Otherwise you meet at the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea, where parking is free.
Will we see whales?
This is a lagoon trip, so whales are not part of it. For humpbacks, book a licensed whale tour between 20 July and 20 November.
